Marbach auction on March 14, 2015 Young horses expertly reared at Haupt- und Landgestüt …. to go to a good home Marbach, January 29, 2015 (HuL Marbach). It’s spring again – and on March 14, 2015 spring and excitement will dominate the air of the large riding arena at Marbach when its young horses will find their new owners.
The development of young horses The young horses have spent the first years of their life at the stud’s own outyards before they appear at the auction. After being weaned, the foals live together in large herds. They enjoy their live in the vast pastures of the outyards and in spacious barns lovingly cared for and educated by Marbach’s stud personnel. As early as in their first two and a half years they learn to trust their human partners by the daily feeding in their barns as well as by regular visits to the blacksmith. In their third year the youngsters enjoy the summer out on the stud pastures before they start their adult life. At the end of November the “young wilds” leave their rearing yards and come to Marbach. Within their groups the three-year old are introduced to the bridle, the saddle and the lungeing equipment. In line with their natural abilities the horses then learn to accept a rider. After that training the youngsters are allowed to run free in groups, are trained in free-jumping and turned out to grass again. When four years old, their training continuous with great care in line with their individual abilities.
Looking back at decades of experience, Karl Single, training director at Marbach, says: “At the age of three, our horses are introduced carefully to the equipment and the weight of a rider by our experienced trainers. After the young horses got started under saddle it has proved successful to then turn them out to grass again. They can thus “digest” the experience made so far and we thereby avoid the risk to ask too much of talented horses. The number of horses offered at our auctions is small but the horses are of high quality, and therefore our horses get all the time they need to develop.”
All Marbach horses are fed hay four times, and concentrates three times a day together with loads of carrots. The three-year old are rugged-in in time to avoid their clipping at a young age.
Marbach auction at March 14 This year the young Marbach horses on offer are particularly high-class horses bred and reared by the much acclaimed Haupt-und Landgestüt Marbach. They include the bay gelding Jefferson by Jazz, that has become one of the most sought-after producers of dressage horses world-wide, or the chestnut gelding Dominus Magnus by the stallion Desparados (under the saddle of Kristina Sprehe during the Olympic games in London 2012). Of the De Niro line also comes the noble brown Darabani (by Dancier). The Marbach sire QUADROFINO is represented by three youngsters from his first crop of foals. The noble Quirin, Quentin and Querulant are evidence of his high-quality paces and character. Despite his very youthful appearance special attention should be given to Christello by the Marbach sire CHRISTDORN, out of Estella by Escudo I. He is a half-brother to Monello by Monte Bellini who was sold at a record price of €50,000.- at the Marbach weekend in 2013 to a sports-horse and training stable in Switzerland. Also on offer are offspring of refining sires such as ISKANDER/T. successful up to advanced-level classes or KRONPRINZ/T. who unfortunately passed away far too early. Another very promising youngster is Laurezia/T. by LAUREL/T. who is a half brother of Michi Jung’s Olympic horse Sam. A blood combination of its own class for eventing is Laurenzia. The young mare has the best performance genes of international breeding horses in her via the top-class producers STAN THE MAN and CAVALLIERI xx. Laurenzia is already well-trained under saddle and may start competing in the forthcoming summer season. Apart from our own horses, horses of other breeders will find a new home via the Marbach auction. “We are looking forward to welcoming visitors, horse lovers and customers from all fields of riding, people who are looking for a family horse, or who are riding on an amateur level or just for fun, and we are also looking forward to the professional rider who has an eye for a talented horse to further train it to excel in its sport. We welcome all visitors and customers alike who share our love for horses”, says Dr. Astrid von Velsen, stud director at Marbach.
